Hey guys -

Anyone have a wiring diagram for a 1998 XCR 700? Or any aggressive chassis? My temp guage doesn't work all the time. It's not the sensor - I pulled the connector off and it's on there really tight. I even zip tied it on to make sure. The connections on the back of the guage are clean and tight also. I'm thinking the power lead to it from ? wherever? is loose. And I don't feel like tearing into the whole wire loom or using a meter to trace it. But if I have to I will.

I already had an account. Problem is this year it only goes back to 99 for manuals. And the 99's don't have the temp sensor - just an overheat lamp.

Anyone else have an idea?

take the sensor wire off of the sensor
and touch it to ground (the gauge must have power when doing this).

if the gauge pegs to the high side, the sensor is bad.

if the gauge doesn't move, the gauge or gauge wiring is the problem.

I would double check the connection on the plug/sender. I was having the same problem with mine and ended up sanding the connection and taking a crimper and slightly bending it, Then I put a dab of electrical grease on the connection.
