The guy told me it was a 2000 so that's what I thought it was.
Yeah that might be a 2000 we had a 2001 that looked just like that.

the next year, this sled was called the Pro-X
Wrong. [BSMeter] The Pro-X had a different chassis (they look similar but they are very different) than that one was and it was a 550 instead of a 440.

I cannot distinguish between the 2000 XCF and the 2001 XCF. Both are in the edge chassis. Both have exactly the same graphics. Snowmobileguy will have to check the manufacture date to verify the model year.

Octane, the Pro-X chassis only had fan cooled motors in it from 2002-2004. 2002 and '03 were 440 fans and the '04 was the 550.

The 2001 ProX came in a 600 and a 440. It was built on a beefed up edge chassis.

2002 some ProX's ( minus the 440 liquids ) were built on the edge chassis.

Come 03', all ProX's were built on the ProX chassis, even the ProXr's.

04' all trail, and fan ProX's were built on the ProX chassis, except for the 440 liquid which was a ProXr, with a completely redesigned front end.

What I mean to say was that the only time fan cooled motors were in the Pro-X chassis was from 2002-2004. I was specifically referring to ONLY fan cooled motors in my previous statement, and upon re-reading it I can see how one can misinterpret.

Wrong. ^^^ I have a stock l/c prox 440 in my garage right now, and it's a 2002.
[thumb] 2002 Had a Pro-X with a 440 fan or a 440 liquid. Then a late season release (2002.5) launched the 2003 Pro-X's which were slightly different than the MY 2003 Pro-X's.

Pro-X History:

2001: Pro-X's came in a variant of either a 600 liquid, 440 liquid or a 440 fan. They were Edge chassis sleds with some bracing, and slightly beefier trailing arms, and clicker shocks, as well as wide running boards - which not introduced until 2003 in the Edge-X only to the XcSp line up.

2002: Pro-X's came in a variant of either a 440 Liquid or a 440 fan. Mid-season (2002.5) they released the Pro-X's that look 99% the same as MY 2003 Pro-X's, only some slight differences. They were the first true Pro-X chassis sleds, not at all an Edge chassis.

2003: Pro-X's came in a variant of either a 440 Liquid (A.K.A Pro-XR) race chassis, 440 fan/600/700/800 (trail model). They were the second year for the Pro-X chassis, and were awesome sleds. The 2003 Pro-X 440 race chassis (refereed to often as a 2003 Polaris Pro-XR 440) is the exact same chassis as the 2004 Polaris Pro-XR 800.

2004: Pro-X's came in a variant of either a Pro-XR 440 liquid Race Chassis, a 550 fan/600/700/800 liquid trail chassis, a Pro-X2 600/700/800 and a Pro-XR 800 (a 2003 Pro-XR chassis with 2004 goodies and a 800 V.E.S motor-only 242 made in the limited orange color). The Pro-XR 440 is a different chassis than the 2004 Pro-XR 800, even though they carry the same badge, the 440 XR has a different tank hoop, steering post mounting and geometry. they also used a 14" wide skid.

I think the only differences between 2000 and 2001 XCF 440's are that the 2000's have no wide running boards and black guages, 2001's have wide running boards. Not sure about the gauges.
