My 583 is currently holding at 4,970 miles but the compression is down to 120. Shes been ran hard and its starting to show weakness.

I would like to freshin up the top end a bit. What is everyones opinions on just putting some new rings on and being done.

Do you think I should go with pistons also or just rings.

For the price of pistons if your going to take it apart, just give the cylinders a good once over with a hone, check tolerances and assemble with new pistions. At 5000 miles that motor should still be ok, 120 psi is still more than acceptable for that motor.

120 psi is still good. My brothers 01 xc 600 has 6300 miles and still pulls 125 psi.

You could hone it and rering it easily if you wanted.
