Anybody know the torque specs for a 98 Polaris XC 700 engine. I'm talking about the head bolts, the exaust bolts, and the jug bolds to the base. Thanks.[?]

If no one gets them for you before tomorrow, I will. I have my shop manual at home (at work right now).

Ok, here ya go:

Head bolts: 22 ft lbs
Base nuts: 34 ft lbs
Exhaust nuts: 17 ft lbs

It says to be sure to torque the head bolts prior to the cylinder base nuts, and apply Loctite 242 to them (the head bolts).

There is also a pattern or sequence you need to follow when tightening down teh head bolts.

You gotta torque them in star pattern for the head and the base, right? Also, I presume that it is best to "step" torque the bolts, such as torque to half, then retorque to final specs after doing the star pattern, right?

The star pattern sounds right, if you really need it I could scan the photo in and post it tomorrow. I don't remember if it stated anything about "stepping" the head bolts or not. But it certainly wouldn't hurt you to do it this way.
