back in the late 70's early 80's my dad and all of his friends raced polaris snowmobiles. I was talking with him about getting a sled and he told me to call up his friend about an old engine that was in his garage. His friend told me that it was one of his old race engines that was taken out of the sled when he sold it. He properly stored it away for the years in his garage. I drove out and he just gave it to me because he wasn't going to use it. I also have the tuned pipes for it and all electrics. I need a good sled that I can drop this engine in. I also need a good clutch because the engine does not have one. It is a polaris 340 txl engine that has all the goodies. I know that it is a small engine compared to the newer 600+ cc engines, but I am a college student and can't afford a brand new 800. If I can get a nice sled at a reasonable cost, I already have a screamin' engine for it, and this will fit my budget. Scott
Oh, sweet deal man..... Sorry I can't help ya....have you tried E-bay?

yeah, I am a regular on ebay. Right now there is a 340 txl that is up for auction. I was fortunate, since I am out at college in kent ohio, that I am only 20 min away from him. I emailed him asking to go take a look. I went over and it is not at all in the condition he reported it to be in on ebay. The clutch didn't want to engage untill wide open throttle, the carbs had to be full of junk, because it sounded like a lawn mower when you gave it throttle, no-snap at all, the shocks are shot, the skis - springs - anything non aluminum is all rusted, the hydraulic brake has no pressure at all, etc... He was asking $900 for it just a few weeks ago, now he reposted it on ebay for I believe $700 or $800. Someone is going to be very angry if they pay him for the ski, and have it shipped to them. Once they get it they are going to flip. Don't buy this ski at that price!!! Scott
damn thats cheap

that might be cheap for a snowmobile, but when you consider what all it will take to get it back in good running condition, then it is not that great of a deal at all. New skis, shocks, brake parts, carbs cleaned-fixed-tuned, rear suspension, new springs, wheels, etc... You will have hundreds in fix-it costs, that is if you can get new parts for that old of a ski. That is why I am looking to get something already in well taken care of condition. Scott
Something tells me that $1200 bucks I was asking for my storm was wayyyy to low. hmmm oh well

intended what do you think would be good for mine.... 91 polaris indy lite 340... needs track, engine great pipes great, hood great, seat small rip, skis and suspension all good. and windshield fine.... gimme an idea

where are you located and do you have pics of your ski for sale? What is wrong with the track, torn-stretched? What about all of the other parts of the ski. Don't let it be another "in perfect condition", that only need a everything replaced, like on ebay. Can anyone tell me if my older 240 txl engine will be an exact bolt up engine? If not, then I am not interested in doing the machine work to make it fit. I don't have the time, nor the equipment in my dorm room. Back home is a different story, but I will not be at home to do extensive work untill summer and that is too late. Scott
correction, 340 txl, not 240, typo
B2SO--- I would say that 500-600 would be fair for your sled, being it has a bad track. Retail on your sled in perfect condition is $1100

what is the BIG ASS HOLE about? If that was directed to me, then you might as well forget having any of my business. I don't know what that was for, but you need to watch you language because these are meant to be friendly. And calling someone a BIG ASS HOLE is not too friendly and definetly does not win over a business deal. A little bit of advise is: You better think about what you are saying next time and it is time to grow up!!
HAHAHAHAHA, Burnin2stroke, you're gonna be stuck with that sled 4ever!

Ok, I see what he means now. I just think it is not good to swear anyway in a chat forum. You can see how something like that can get mistaken for a rude remark. Just keep it clean and this will continue to be a great place to chat. Scott
