So, in my recent visits to a friends shop, I caught eye of a snowmobile sitting up on a shelf. This thing doesn't have a skid, skis, or a gas tank, and its in pieces. But everything is there, and the motor turns over nicely. But, I'm having a hard time determining what year and model this thing is. I know its a polaris with a 500cc liquid cooled motor with a single pipe. Its been repainted, but it appears it was red on the sides and black on the top. The suspension is red in the front, and the seat has been replaced I beleive. If anyone can help that would be awesome, and if you can tell me how good or bad this sled was, that would be great too. I don't have pictures of the rest of the sled, but I have pictures of the hood, cylinder heads, and the seat.

Looks like it was a 2000 XC 500 45th anniversary edition.

That may be it, looks like it in the picture, minus 3 years of oily dust. Were these sleds any good? I'm trying to figure out whether or not its worth fixing to ride, or just get the engine running and sell whats there. Its will cost a bit to fix since it has no rear skid, skis, track, or gas tank. And the dash was taken apart the old-fashioned way(cracked and yanked apart). It has 3200 miles on it, but the speedo and tach are broken, so I don't know if thats correct. But either way, I think its was worth what I paid.

gen 2 chassis was not super impressive, I would part it out, that motor will probably go for 4-6 bills, hood for 100 seat for 100, windsheild for 30, coolers 30

well my sled is the year older of that if it is the 2002. i got 11700 miles on the thing original motor. i think it was rebuilt before i got the thing. that was around 6000 miles. ive never had to do a rebuild and i still have good compression. runs like a top. and it handles great too. very predictable.

i would say part it, but it would be nice to see a special edition get restored to its former glory, definatly more money parting it, but not as fun or challenging

if all it needs is skis, skid, track, and a gas tank id find parts off craigslist or something and put it back together
