I always thought '94 or '95 was kind of the "glory years" for cross-country racing. XCRs and ZRs duking it out for 500 miles. I think those years were nearing the end of the true 500-mile cross country races. Like the Winnipeg to St Paul or Thunder Bay to St Paul routes. They still have a 500 mile race, but it isn't the same. A lot less racers and it is around a closed loop.
Polaris had a full-page advertisement for the XCR one of those years. It showed the top 25 finishers of the I-500. They were all Polaris, except the 24th place finisher was a Cat. I really wish I could find that advertisement.
Oh, and Jack Struthers was my hero, too. What ever happened to him?
