trying to find out what year my ultra motor is, i was told it is a 96 by the guy i bought it from. the waterpump does not have a sight glass or a fill or drain plug, do all 96 have this or just some?

heres the ser.# from the block 9700036 Im thinking its a 97 or 98 maybe?

any help would be great.

I would say its a 97. i will look later on my 97 but i think the first two numbers of the ser. number represents the year of the motor.

Thats what i was thinking. I was looking at my xlt and that ser # started with a 92 and its a 93, so i was going by that and thinking it my be a 98. thanks for the help

I would say '97 also, the '96 was the only year to have separate oil for the water pump.

I would look right around that area and get the engine model number. It should start with an EC or an SN. I think there are a few engines that will bolt right in to the Ultra. Might be useful knowing if it came from a different model if you ever need parts.
