Am I thinking correctly?

Thoughts on head gaskets for a 680 Ultra?

What am I getting into?

What else should I do with the top opened?

Thanks,
Jonesy.

when the head gasket ( O rings) is blown, it will smoke a lot, and will eat through coolant like it going out of style, as it is burning it, not just re-cycling it through the motor/heatexchangers.

Or, your oiler is stuck open. I'm pretty sure they use O-rings, not a gasket.
IF this was true, his oil bottle would loose it's oil very fast. twice as fast as normal.

If your head gaskets are blown, replace all of them (should be 2 per cylinder).

I'm guessing head gasket(s) as the "temp" light came on as I limped home.

Two per cyl??? Top and bottom of cylinder or both on top?

Wondering how much has to come apart?

two rings on top of the cylinder under the head. All you have to do is take your head off. then they are right there.

Drain you coolant before taking your heads off. Dumping into the bottom end will give you smoked bearings to go with your white smoke. Don't turn replacing head gaskets into an engine rebuild. Not that I ever did that or anything.

Would a base gasket do the same? Just trying to figure out how far down I should tear this thing?

Thanks.
