Hey guys, just bought a 99 XC SP 500. Wondering what i could expect performance wise out of this sled. I've heard some pretty good things about it but i was just trying to get a feel for what i should expect before i get it out on the snow. Thanx

Sweeeet! My brother has one, its a 2000, but from what I have read, heard, and meditated, that sled is a top of the line snowmobile. The suspension will eat almost anything you can throw at it and the engine is EXTREMELY powerful for a 500, I was amazed when I rode his. The throttle response is excellent and the overall ride is exceptional. The only thing wrong with it..... The head light switch falls off. LOL, have fun!!!!

Does yours have the VES? Mine does and it is a 2000. I didn't think that they had that in 99. If it doesn't the HP will be lower than 90, well I might be wrong to I was told that mine is in the range of about 100. Anyways I am able to run with most of the 600's and some of the 700's. Hope for snow so we all can ride our sleds.

Yeah. The VES didn't appear on the 500 until 2000 and that was the 45th anniversary
edition 500 XC SP. You could still get the 500 XC without VES. I was shopping at one of the local dealers around here (for a '01 edge) and the price difference they had between the 500 XC and the Sp was only about 500 bucks. They said put up the extra 500 bucks and you'll get a better ride (fox shocks all around) and a quicker engine with the VES. I now have a '02 500 Edge X with 130 miles, (I LOVE IT!!) and so far the headlight switch hasn't fallen off. Nothing has. Happy Trails and Happy Holidays!!!

The new ones don't have the headlight switch problem, as far as I know anyway.

That's a sweet machine you've got there.
