Performance

New high-performance 998cc 4-stroke engine, based upon the successful R1 motorcycle design, out-performs the legendary SRX in acceleration and top speed. This engine not only has more horsepower than competitor's 800cc twins do… it also develops an incredible 65% more low-end torque.
Motorcycle-based 4-stroke engine technology delivers high power-to-weight ratio with exceptional bottom-end power.
Exclusive Compact in-line four-cylinder design fits with-in tunnel width to allow lightweight and strong chassis design.
Exclusive 30 degree tipped back engine layout with forward-facing intake, and under-the-seat exhaust, centers the engine mass for quick response to driver's input.
Exclusive Patented 5-valve head design allows optimum airflow for high-RPM power and efficient fuel consumption.
Lightweight forged pistons operate at a 11.8 to 1 compression ratio on 87-octane fuel.
Exclusive Genesis Extreme exhaust system has four straight-out-the-back head pipes that collect through an X-style crossover system to two rear exhaust outlets. This design minimizes exhaust flow restriction for maximum power and efficiency.
Exclusive Exhaust silencer position assists vehicle balance for excellent handling.
Exclusive Gear-driven output shaft allows high engine RPM and a lower, more efficient drive clutch speed. Rubber dampened isolation system reduces torque pulses for greater clutch and v-belt life. Output shaft also drives water pump and oil pump.
Exclusive Four 37mm constant-velocity carburetors have high airflow with easy throttle effort. Industry-leading liquid-heated carburetors maintain excellent throttle response and fuel economy.

New aggressive clutch calibration is used due to the Genesis Extreme 4-stroke engine's high-torque and high-horsepower characteristics. New high-force drive clutch weights, working with a new multi-angle helix, generate high belt squeeze force for quick acceleration and responsive back-shift.
Camoplast Predator track, featuring 1" lugs, increases acceleration and provides excellent handling. This track is 1.5 pounds lighter than the SRX track.
Compact hood shape reduces aerodynamic drag for increased top speed.
Handling

Exclusive Deltabox chassis has up to 4 times the torsional rigidity than the competition while reducing chassis weight by 9 pounds. This stiff design controls chassis flex for a solid feeling under hard acceleration, quick response when cornering and smooth suspension action in the bumps.
Deltabox chassis design incorporates 4 high-strength die-castings produced by an Industry-First high-vacuum high-pressure process. This exclusive method allows lightweight thin-wall construction and increased strength. Force is also carried over the engine to the steering gate with a lightweight aluminum extrusion.
Steering linkage, routed to side of engine, allows the engine to be low in the chassis.
Engine center of gravity is 0.8" lower and 2.0" further back than the SRX.
Motorcycle-style engine mounting system isolates engine vibration, controls drive belt misalignment under torque, and adds chassis strength.
Incorporating the heat exchangers under the footrest area increases tunnel strength.
New chassis has wide footrests and running board traction for easy driver movement.


Double wishbone front suspension moves through 9" of vertical travel with zero bump-steer and no spindle caster angle change for razor-sharp handling and confidence in the bumps. Optimum front suspension travel delivers excellent bump-eating performance with flat high-speed cornering.
Double wishbone front suspension design maintains accurate ski-to-ski alignment (zero bump-steer) providing consistent ski tracking in bumps or when riding at high speed.
Front suspension geometry maintains the spindle angle at a stable 23 degrees so that steering effort remains consistent throughout the full ski travel.
Unequal length A-arm design minimizes ski center-to-center change (ski scrub) for consistent handling on rough, rutted trails.
New large 40mm diameter high-pressure shock absorbers increase shock fade resistance.
Progressive ratio stabilizer system sharpens cornering and big bump response.
New lightweight plastic skis, with dual-angle keel, give accurate steering with low steering effort.

Powerful and lightweight electric start feature is standard equipment on all RX-1 models. No more rider overheating from trying to pull-start your snowmobile on cold mornings - no more recoil rope stains on your jacket.
Pro-Action SXV long-travel rear suspension soaks up the bumps with 11.5" of vertical travel. This long travel rear suspension delivers performance, confidence and comfort when running through tight corners or through miles of stutter bumps.
Equipped with aluminum high pressure gas shocks with exclusive needle bearings and multi-rate springs.
New: 40mm diameter high-pressure center shock absorber features new valving design for greater tunability and increased durability and response. Larger oil capacity increases shock-fade resistance.
Adjustable rear control rods for increasing or decreasing suspension weight transfer.
Exclusive single-point, Quick-Adjust rear suspension allows the rider to quickly adjust both effective shock damping and spring rates to suit their riding style.

Of coarse this is from yamahas web page and it's full of hipe but i will tell you next year when i add the turbo if it was worth it.You can watch the video at yamaha's website. Man i'm hyped.

yeah it was all over here before the database reset(my guess as to what happened) I love it and my dad is really considering getting one and selling me his Viper :)

I can't find this one picture I saw that illistrated the exhaust system very well oh wait I remember where ti was! on yamaha's site under technology with teh RX-1!

talk about a peice of equipment.....damn...thats beautiful....i wonder if it will have the power it says...kinda like the skidoo proopen sled, kinda like redline...that thing kicks ass..no payments till march 2003, sell mine, work like hell, buy one of them.....hehehe...i liek em

Don't kill me for saying this, I like Yamaha for all the advancements they have brought to alot of different sports. But I think that this thing looks alot like the Redline sled. Just look at the front suspension and the exhaust. I would still pick the Redline because of the rear swingarm suspension on it and the weight on the Redline is alot less.

i'm just thinin how i can stay loyal to polaris when yamaha goes and does something like this. this isn't setting a benchmark for the industry (ac and polaris did that with their four strokes) this is setting it a thousand times over! i'm not crazy about the looks, but i'd get used to it because of every other benefit. if this is the future, give me a plane ticket first class, cuz it looks pretty good so far...

Yeah, you're definately right about it having styling similarities to the Redline. I love it though, I think it lookes amazing! If it has even close to the torque and hp, and is only as heavy as an SRX w/ rev, then that thing should absolutely FLY!!!

I can't wait to try one. Not sure if I could afford one by this fall or not. Besides, I may want to wait a season to see if they need to work any bugs out of the system. Either way I think its an amazing advancement in the way snowmobiles will be produced in the future. I am interested in seeing what Polaris comes up with...they've got some steep competition now.

Does anybody know when you can actually buy one of these from a dealer? I want one bad! Power is said to be in the 140-150hp range along with tons of torque. Weight is around 550lbs with gas.

intended, do you know with how much gas? i'm interested in the dry weight to compare it to other manufacturer's sleds- and since a gal. of gas weighs around 6 lbs, i was wondering the tank size.

When in doubt- Throttle out!

I don't know exactly how much gas but they said that it has a smaller tank because of the better mileage

According to Yamahas site, they have a 10gal fuel tank. Didn't see a wt, but I read somewhere that theyweigh about the same as an SXR w/ rev. I guess they were shooting for no more than a 5% wt increase over the SXR.

Personally, i don't care how much a sled wieghts dry because i will never ride it dry. But, it is better dry when comparing other models. Also, i think the power to wieght ratio on the RX-1 would be astonishing with a turbo spoolin'. There is soooooo much potential for that motor. Pretty soon, they will start adding variable valve timing and 2 stage intake systems. This is just the beginning. sweet.

Oh my god!!!!!!!!!! Lovin it! Been ridin Polaris for over 20 years now but I don't know? Love the exhaust out the back. Wicked!!!! I'll take 3... 1 in every colour!

Hey I bleed green, but couldn't agree more with the "hype" Seriously considering swapping my 1 litre two stroke for a 1litre four stroke. Cost is about the same and like mega man says the motor has incredible potential. As for weight well hell I already ride a TCat not noted for it light weight. My guess is that the new RX-1 mountain is about the same weight as my 2000 TCMC 565 dry I have shaved probably 20 lbs off my sled but I bet I could do it to the RX-1 too.

I am with Tfin70. I will wait for them to work the bugs out, then invest my cash into the machine. I think the 4 stroke idea is great, esspecially from Yamaha. Thier MotoX four stroke is very nice. If they put the same effort into this machine, it should be one hell of a sled.

I can't imagine that there would be any bugs, as they have been using most of the parts from the R-1 sport bike for years with no problems.

I think this is great news for everybody, no matter what brand you like. Yami just raised the bar, and the rest of the sled manufacturers will be forced to meet and exceed that bar.

Cat fans should be especially happy. Suzuki has plenty of 4-stroke technology in their road bikes, so I'd guess that the Cats can't be far behind the Yamis. Ski doo and Polaris will surely follow, although will probably be somewhat slower to react than Cat.

It makes me wish I waited a couple months longer to go sled shopping.

Intended 550 is the dry weight meaning no gas. It says that on www.snowest.com but they say it ways about the same as the SRX wet(with liquids) because it has the smaller tank. the Dry weight on an SRX was 525.

the streaming video is sweeeeeeet!!! the sound of that thing revvin, ohhh what a nice sound. I could get use to it. SWEET SWEET completely different image for yami with a-arms!!
