Been there, done that. You will have an awesome time. We went to Lions Head, Big Sky, Island Park, and some other places I don't remember the name. I can't wait to go back, possibly this year. Just stay in a group, never go out alone and most of all, have fun. I'm jealous. Here are some picts.

IMO the park is a complete waste of time. Lots of animals but you see that everywhere. 35mph the whole time, you have to stay with your guide, 4 strokes only, I didn't think old faithful was even that cool. If you are trying to break up your trip I'd use the extra day to go skiing at big sky (which I did).

The snowmobiling will be a blast for you. I stayed at the holiday inn in west yellowstone. We rented M8's from them. Rode to a place called "two tops" which is all powder with lots of air to hit. Found some cool bowls, cool bars in the middle of nowhere ect.

All in all a great trip. I just wouldn't recommend the park.

I forgot about Two Tops. That's one place we didn't get time to go to. I heard it's one of the top places to go out there around West Yellowstone.

I second not going into Yellowstone, unless it is something your family really wants to do. I went to West Yellowstone and was suppose to go in the park the last day but decided after riding mountains for 2 days, the park would put me to sleep.

Other than that, it was some of the most memorable riding I have ever had. Would do it again in a second if I had the money. Also a guide outside the park never hurts. Our guide was an awesome rider and knew of a ton of spots that we would have never found. Some great canyons and bowls.

Should be a fun time!

I've been out Yellowstone way a couple times. Always had a good time. We've never bothered with the park...never saw the point. Head out of town and find yourself some powder. Don't be afraid of getting stuck...it's bound to happen.

my favortie place to go out there is sawtell, but you need a guide to get yourself there. I never miss going to two tops when we go there, there is a fun local trail that comes off the back side down to the bar, kind of a short cut, don't wander that way unless you know the trail, or you have somebody that knows it.

My brother in law has been to the park and also said that it was quite boring compared to the rest of the trip. He was with family and didn't have much choice...

My riding group has talked about going out there, but just haven't done it yet. After looking at the pics I'm sure it would make Michigan riding quite boring?? Looks awesome!

You guys really need to get away from tourist spots!!!!!!!! Its even better out past the above mentioned spots. Get back to sheep mt and take a day go to carrot basin! West yellow is a great trip for anyone that wants to try MT. riding. But there are lots of sleds out there, which means lots of tracks! Unless you know the locals secrets spots!!!!

I have been out there 3-4 times, big sky is one of my favorite areas to ride but it is somewhat easy to get lost out there if it is everyones first time, and it is a none maintained trail. If its a good snow year it doesnt matter where you go you will have fun.

rules for riding the park are so stricts and its nots just fourstrokes its the most technologically advanced sleds available so skip the park go in the summer and drive trhough with the car like everyone else says hit up around two tops or togwotee even its not that far of a drive from the parkand with all the snow were gettin here in wyoming itll be good riding no matter where you go

Thanks everyone, keep it coming!
Ill show my dad the responses and see if he wants to change anything. I didnt think the park would be as boring as everyone says (i know it is as far as riding but for scenery/animals etc we dont get here in new england) so maybe we'll change that up, but my mom is coming and she's just starting so she'll probably enjoy that day the most.

Blackbear Snotel is showing 56" right now. That's probably almost as good as it got most of the season last year. I wouldn't worry about snow this year. Just worry about getting some fresh snowfall right when you get there, so you get to ride untracked!

I think most of the people that are saying skip Yellowstone are just saying that from a riders standpoint. If you're coming all the way from the East Coast, I'd say do it. When I'm out riding, I'm not sightseeing and looking for moose. I'm just riding and choosing my next line. The Yellowstone tour would be a totally different experience. I don't know where the tours go, but I think it would be really cool to see the Grand Canyon of The Yellowstone, or the Upper Falls in winter. You'll maybe want a slow day on your trip to lick your wounds and get rested up, so maybe the tour wouldn't be a bad idea. Maybe look into a snowcoach tour? If you can't really do any fun riding on the tour anyway, why not sit in climate controlled comfort?

nice! im so pumped for it, never been out of new england to ride. We are going to do the park tour because for one, we've never seen it so why not? and two, my mother is coming who doesn't really ride so my dad wants to do it for her because she hates going fast and would rather see the sights and animals (and we wouldnt mind one day to relax and see it either), so it sounds perfect for her. then the other days we will do some real riding! thanks guys, keep me updated on any storms if you can! :) leaving the 5th!
