I had a ring turn in my zr 600. What causes that? Anyway I need a new cylinder piston and rings. I am wondering what I need to torque the cylinder down to and what does the head need to be torqued to. Also can I reuse the base gasket? it still looks fine.

sure, reuse the gasket, put it back on the same way it came off. Just torque things til they are tight, I wouldnt tighten anything down any harder than 35 ft/lbs. Ive rebuilt a couple engines, just used my bare hands and never had any problems. You really cant strip out the studs that hold the cylinders, but its possible to overtighten head bolts. Just go slow and tigthen each of them a little at a time.

Base bolts are 22-28 ft/lbs and head bolts are 16-20 ft/lbs if I remember right...somewhere around there anyway...
