Hey everyone and thanks in advance for the help. I'm getting a bit fustrated with my sled and about to take it to the shop, but thought I would post here before blowing more money.
Problem: 1997 XLT RMK is very hard, if not impossible, to start when the engine is cold. I typically start with full choke give it 10-15 pulls...then no choke...then resort to starter fluid (I know, bad!). Starting fluid always does the trick though and once it is warm it runs great and starts first pull the rest of the day IF ITS WARM.
What I have done: I have pulled the carbs, cleaner the hell out of them, inspected the floats, cleaner all the jets, replaced needle and seats. Tried to sync the carbs as best I know how, adjusted air screws to 1.5 turns out, all idle screws are also in the same position on all carbs. Choke cables seem to be working fine and not sticking. Also replaced plugs, wires and boots. Getting great spark and fuel. Plugs looks a but dark and wet when i remove them...this sled has always run rich.
What I'm thinking that I have not yet checked is compression. Sled has about 4,000 miles on it...could it be that once the sled warms, compression issues go away until the engine cools? but if it was compression, why does it run with so much power? Hmmm....
Anyone else had this problem? Any suggestions would be greatly appricated!
Thanks in advance,
Jeff
