Hello everyone.
Because of the nature of our trails I´m going to get a 440 sled for myself next fall. I like the iQ the most since it has IMO the best riding position of them all and it´s great looking. What I heard today was that you have to rebuild the engine on the 440 iQ much more often than on any other 440 sleds, I was told that the engine has to be rebuilt every 8 hours of using. Does anyone know if this is true or just a load of bull..?

i don't know about that, seems a bit fishy, i mean the thing is nearly as strung out as a dirtbike engine..You might want to think again about using one for trail use, the fuel tank is only 3 gal. You won't go very far between fill ups.

Nah, I don´t want a 600 in it, if I would then I´d get the Lynx 600cc racer. And yes you can get a 40litre gas tank for it, that´s what I´m planning to do.
And ripperd, thank´s for the info I´ll go check it out! [:)]

where do you get the bigger tanks for them? I would love to have one for a trail sled, but i think only racers can get them for race use only.

Well here in scandinavia you can get the bigger tanks from "Swedish Mountain Products". Why would the 440s be sold to racers only? In here anyone can buy one. You just got to order it in the spring/early summer..

do these aftermarket tanks actually fit decent or is it a hack job? I'm not sure about getting a new IQ 440 here because they don't show them in any product line-ups, usually because its a racer only type of product. I'm not even sure how much they go for here in Canada. Anybody willing to post up what they paid for their IQ's?

The racers are not listed in the catalogs because they are not introduced untill very late in the fall, so when the 07´ catalogs are printed no-one knows what the final 07´ racer will even be like. So actually when you order a new racer you´ll have to take a small risk since you don´t actually know what it´ll be like. And the aftermarket tanks made by SMP fit very nicely. Don´t know about other manufacturers but I´d guess that they are all nicely finished.

In the USA here you usually have to submit a race resume to get on the list to buy a race 440. These you send in the spring and when the sleds come in the fall you must pay cash/check when you go pick it up from your dealer, I don't think they do financing on race sleds.

That sounds like a business idea, anyone in for a brand new 07´ race sled? I can buy it to you from here and you pay: Sled, shipping and some dealing reward for me [8D] [;)]

I know here in Canada you can buy an IQ 440, And I also know what mods are needed for trail riding. Because I was going to get one but funds ran short. And I also know that you can finace the sled because the dealer I was talking to was going to do that for me. I know " Crosscountrysales.com " Cross Country Sales and Service has one available. The best tank is from www.wickedracinparts.com it is an 8gal tank that goes under your seat. And you will also have to buy the pump gas coversion for the motor. Or else you will have to run 110 octane fuel through it all the time. And also you will have to find a way to increase coolent volume so that you won't run hot. Good luck.

interesting info..more and more i read it seems like alot of guys are against riding the IQ 440 trail style..Everyone says the top end blows???How fast do they top out at?

Tell me this--why have an IQ for TRAILS? Granted, your XCR may be great on trails, but snocross tracks aren't now what they once were. Just because they are both snocross sleds in their respective time frames doesn't mean they are close to being on the same page. IQs were never designed for anything close to trails. Get an XC, or even a Pro-X, they're geared more for flat turning. One look at an IQ would tell most anyone it isn't a sit down and putts around on trails all day sled. I get a kick out of people that want an IQ or even Pro-X, when the only thing that is any bit beneficial to them are the graphics and the ego that they think goes with a race sled.
