Where are how do you add brake fluid?

A brake system is a hydraulic system. The fluid acts almost like a sponge to water and is refered to as a hygrosopic(spelling) fluid. It's estential that's it's changed on a regular service interval especially considering the conditions in which we ride. I would follow the manufacturers recomendation on type of fluid. Adding fluid is not an option unless you had a leak. The reason the fluid drops is due to the brake pads wearing and thus moving closer the the brake disc. The fluid acts as a buffer and attempts to compensate for the wear on your pads. If your fluid level droped alot you may need new pads.

The housing that the brake lever bolts onto has a hairline crack and its cast iron. We all know how week cast iron is when it has a crack in it, so I bought a new lever and resivior off ebay. I just need to install it. Take the old one off, and then bleed the brakes right? So you guys are saying to go get brake fluid from the dealer just to be safe? Thanks

If you have to install a new lever and reservoir you will also want a new copper crush washer on the banjo fitting. Be carfel not to over tighten, these only have to be a hair past snug. This would be a good time to consider a braided brake hose. The difference in performance between the stock rubber line and a SS line is amazing.
