My truck has a 5.5' box and I drove all the way from Minneapolis back to Manitoba with my '07 Switchback just sticking out the back. Couple of tie-downs, no big deal.

(I don't have that truck anymore, but my 2010 F150 also has just a 5.5' box.)

That would get you pulled over around here.

no it wouldn't in Maine you can do that as long as you have something tied to the back of it so people can see it at night or clearly. Atleast that's what i was told

In some cases. The Fryeburg 5.0 are dicks about pretty much everything.

Like I said, I drove a good 5 hours with it like that, saw many cops, drove through a few cities and I never had any hassle. That was in MN, ND and MB.

So you should know about them than. How like, 3 cops this year alone were kicked off the police force.

Maybe they're only dicks to people who are dicks? [dunno]

Im doubting that dozens of people are dicks to the cops every day on the main street of fryeburg. These guys just dont know when to stop.

Yea if you were to drive like that through skowhegan or farmington you would get pulled over. Especially skowhegan.

And i don't recommend hauling a sled in the back of a truck with the track on the top of the tailgate... unless it is like a tundra or something.

Why, so the insurance company will pay for it when it breaks?

Well obviously you would tie it down... If you have an older truck the tailgate hinges rust out and get pretty weak. Also the latches/locks aren't fool proof, some use elasticity to keep the locks in and when those go loose the tailgate falls backward and pulls the sled back with it. My friend also has some japanese '05 tacoma and bent his tailgate really bad by loading an old ski-doo triple on it.

i do it just like this have not had any problems yet and a good investment into a good set of straps and the knoledge to use them write there should be no reason for the sled to fall out, there is also a device on the market that keeps the tail gate from bouncing up and down if the sled does not cover the hole tail gate kinda thing .. probly run into that trouble with a atv or something shorter then a sled ... i also installed a extra leaf spring in my shortie to get rid of the saggy butt it had last year with the sled in the back..

when i put mine in my moms f150 all i do is lock the parkingbrake and put a ratchetstrap from one of the radius rods/ a arm and to one of the hooks they dont move at all

Ok my first post on this forum. I made my own little sled deck to load my sled in my pickup. It cost me around $65 to build and it was really easy. NOW I do not take credit for coming up with the plans I seen it on another forum.

Ramps fold in under the base. When i'm not using the deck I take the ramps out and the back part of the deck folds up so I can close my tailgate.

We load our 136" track sleds into the bed of my dad's truck without a problem. He's got an 06 GMC 1500 Crew Cab with the 5' 8" bed (or whatever it is). Strap it down and away you go (tailgate down). As for loading and unloading, we just use a snow bank or get a couple guys to lift the sled into the back.
