You bought an awesome sled. I've rode this model since '92 and never hand one problem with it. Had it going WFO for over 10 minutes multiple times across the Chippewa Flowage in WI. On average snow conditions it will go 75. On a smooth snow covered road it can do 80. With a slight downhill grade and a breeze at your back maybe 85. This sled can woop up on anyone on the windy trails.

i have a 1991 indy 500 sp (similar 488 engine except mine is liquid) and in very good conditions ive had mine up to 90 on radar. My guess would be that you should do 75 mostly, 80 at the very highest. This sled is extremely reliable and if you treat it right, you should see 10,000 miles easily before any major engine work is needed.

you got a good deal.. that's some good compression.. just keep the maintenance up and everything lubed like the manufacture say and it'll give you years of fun riding..

Speedo is pretty good. I use a GPS which indicated tenths of miles per hour.

snowxracer, no chance in hell would you see a 488 fan with a full tank of gas going 90 mph, sorry thats just not happening. ^^^ like aspin said, the speedo was way off, you were probably doing closer to 75ish. With a full tank of gas, any stock fan sled would be lucky to see 80 in good conditions.

My 87 trail with 8200 miles on it and one rebuild at 6000 , will do 80 on radar. I have a very low lug height. This helps. I also maintain it and do all the work myself. I went last year on a lake and both my friends, one with a 91 skidoo formula 467 and the other with a 93 cougar 440 went side by side and I went ahead of both before we stopped. The cougar was like right behind me but the ski doo lost some ground. The ski doo is a formula is a very heavy trail sled. My brothers 97 trail did only 65 last year. Found out the carbs needed cleaning and he used a dayco 1105 belt. After carb cleaning and new polaris belt and loosening the track a little, he stayed right with mine.

I had an old '86 Indy trail back in the day. It may have pulled 75 on a good day. Was a very reliable sled, and I believe it is still running strong, with only a track swap thats been done to it. I sure miss those old gold slide rails. The suspension wasn't the greatest, but boy were those slide rails shiny.

I can make a bet my 1995 Indy trail can do a 100 easily it ban ran on a Dyno and radar on trails and open fields
