Phazer problems

I have another problem now. The sled started beutifully with the cleaned carbs and ran like a champ. I hit the throttle for more and I didn't have much speed. I let it sit and it started dying at idle. I bring her back into the garadge and lo and behold, both fuel lines connected to the carbs were leaking. A steady drip from both of them. I replaceed the fuel lines over the summer but they were loose on the nozzle to the carb so I used 2 clamps on them. What could be the cause of this leak? The clamps arn't the greatest so should I buy new ones or is there a greater problem?

---Sorry for being so angry, I pretty much blew a gasket. It is not right to get mad over a retarded snowmobile[:D] I should take a break from snowmobiling for about 10 years[B)]

I see you have a couple thrds going on this, but you're still going to get the same answer.

when you cleaned the carbs, something was missed. If the fuel is coming from the overflow, the problem will be in the float bowl.
Could be:
1..seat not threaded into body
2..needle not sealing on seat
3..float level is way out of wack (could have bent the tab by accident)
4..assembled wrong

Sorry but the only way to fix this, is pull the carbs and check all the above.

sorry about having 2 topics, it wasn't working at all over in "general" and I have gotten more hits here. Anyways, we have no idea how to get the floats adjusted. My manual says to tilt the carbs upside down at a 65 degree angle and measure the floats. Yea, were not expert mechanics here. Could it be that the float just got stuck? I the carbs off again and the float was stuck open.

I've just about had it with snowmobiling. Dad and I spent a whole day working on the stupid thing and it's still sitting in our driveway like it has for the past two weeks. Tried fixing the fuel leak, turned out to be a carb problem. Took the starter cables out, one assembly falls into the depths of the belly pan. Takes a hour and a half to fish teh stupid things out the bottom. So now were covered in gasoline since it spilled everywhere. We get the carbs back on and we fire her up. This is around 3pm. We start messing around with the tuning since it needs adjustment. Well, the idle screw comes off and we can't get it back on without taking the carbs off. We tried getting teh dang thing back on but we gave up and left her sitting in the driveway. I'm pissed off at the sled, dad's pissed off with me and the sled, mom's pissed off with the both of us, and I think my luck is pissed off with me. What a great day wasted.

Effing phazer carbs are a pain in the ass. One thing I learned from my phazer fixing experiences, never let them go bad again, EVER. It sucks man, I feel your pain. Mine was all ####ed up for a while too but I rode the piss out of it and it settled herself out. Good luck dude.

When I adjust the idle, she either dies or backfires. I cleaned the carbs out, what else could be effing wrong???!!!What the hell. I guess I need to quit snowmobiling since its too frustrating and aggravating. This blows.
Dont get too discouraged, I used to have problems also when I used to ride older stuff. It gets aggrivating, I know. It deffinitly sounds like its in your carbs, and carbs can be tricky, espescially on old yamaha's. Do you know anybody that is good with that kind of stuff that could possibly come and give you a hand?

here's the scoop
We have finally given up on the machine and were taking the carbs somewhere where they have a "ultra sonic cleaner". They guy said you have to know what your doing when you clean mikuni carbs and hell, I have no idea what I was doing, even with the pictures and all. They said that cleaning them by yourself will not get everything out. I'm not getting the carbs back till thursday and I have to go to my grandparents for 3 days on saturday. Can't take the sled with me even though they live in the snow belt. All the snow is coming Wednesday. I just hope I can ride this winter.

well, I am pissed off right now. The guy cleaned my carbs, did a pressure check, the whole thing, and now it won't idle. It's like the idle screw has no effect on it. Well, I look under and see that a float bowl is leaking. So after 70 dollars and 2 weeks, I'm back to square one.

1st...Slow down. Working on stuff when you pissed never is a good idea. I tend to miss way to much. Backup.....the fuel is coming out of the over flows(vents)...right? couple tings to look at..
1.check float hight (read up on this, get the correct spec. and where to take the measurements from)
2. bad needle & seat, not shutting off the gas even if the float hight is correct(replace...Look at rubber tip, grooved or hard, or even in question...replace)
3. Does the seat have an O-rign around it to seal....If so, When you have the float bowls off and everything has been checked (float hight & needle & seat) Put small amount of gas in the carb gas inlet tube, Hook up a "clean" hose and hold the needle lightly down with your finger and blow gentely and watch for gas or bubles coming form around the seats...will show you if the O-ring is bad.

Or

Replace needle, seat, O-rign, and set floats...Will cost you less then $70 That should take care of problem. I don't care how much you clean.....If the rubber has gone bad on either the O-ring (if it has that) or the needle, Your just going to continue to have problems...Good luck

The mechanic fixed everything for me. He checked all the seals and rings. He did a pressure check too. My problem is the sled won't idle at all. If I give her gas she runs fine though.

Scottsville is south from Rochester so were quite a distance apart. Thanks for the offer though.

Eh, well, I'm over it now. Even though I never rode, I'm looking foward to summer[:)] I'm considering selling the sled and getting out of snowmobiling all together. It takes to much time, money, and patience to try to ride an old machine. Maybe when I'm 30 and have enough money to buy a new machine.
