I don't have a problem with loud pipes at all, in fact my brother's is loud and I love the way it sounds. But, I also realize that the sport around my area and in many states needs some good rep. Would I put extremely loud pipes on my sled, no.

Alright, how can you say you have no issues with loud pipes after you started a topic about having an issue with loud pipes? This is totally contradictory. You also say you wouldn't put extremely loud pipies on your sled, implying that maybe only mildly loud pipes are alright? I know what your trying to say but that reply probably wasn't the best choice of words or the way to end this arguement.

no. he said he likes them but other people do not. he chooses not to put them on his own sled out of respect and courtesy to others. he thinks keeping the noise down is a good thing for the sport. i have a lot of respect for him because he is willing to sacrifice his own personal preference for the good of the sport.

it is a minor thing to give up anyway. i have a hard time understanding why people fight so hard to keep their sleds loud.

Phaz4 hit this one on the head. Look at my first post, it never said, I don't like loud pipes, or pipes for that matter. Okay? Then as I read on in your post, you imply something I said something that I clearly didn't say. I never said it is mildly loud pipes were okay or not okay, but I certainly would take mildly loud over the extremely loud, it would be a start, mif you know what I mean! For me, I think you thought too deeply into my last post, and what I said is what I meant, I wasn't putting a backwards spin on it or anything like that.

Loud pipes are cool, just dont be an idiot with them. Use some common sense where you ride and nobody gets hurt.

Id have a trick pipe on my weedwacker if I knew how to do it.

[br]Oh yay, I get these topics all the time on my car audio forums, now I get one here.

As many of you know, I'm an enthusiast in the car audio world. My recent install in my car was easily capable of over 140dB. And I usually listened to it at about 75-95% of max volume. However, my windows were always up, and my car is heavily deadened (about $200 worth of deadener). If I do roll my windows down, it's on the highway during peak travel hours, where there is heavy noise to begin with. However, if I happen to be driving through a residential area, I will turn it down, as I know there are a considerable number of people who do not like loud sound systems in cars. And even though I've spent a considerable amount of money to keep my car quiet, 140dB+ is a little hard to contain. I have never recieved a sound violation, nor have I ever been pulled over or harassed by any form of authority (or anyone besides my parents and people in the car who wanted to see what it could do, then got overwhelmed)

Now, onto the point of snowmobiling. I have a PSI pipe on my sled. I got the pipe on ebay for real cheap because it had been damaged. I have since repaired it, and I assume the repairs have made it even louder than it's original design made it. Now I live out of town, but to get to a trail, I have to drive through town. And I do a lot of my trail riding at night. But I am considerate, I never rev or "wrap" it until I'm out of town. I keep it below 20 mph, and below 5000 rpm (doesn't really get loud until 6000 rpm). When I'm out on the trails, anything is fair game. I rev it all the time, as I'm no-where near anyone's house to cause a serious disturbance. I'm sure there are still people who can hear me, but not at the level to be considered a nuisanace.

Snowmobilers and car audio enthusiasts both run into the same problems from the same people . . . "It's too loud, it's disturbing my kitty cat and I can't sleep at night, and it's causing me great mental anguish and physical harm" (As you can probably tell, I'm not to fond of people who bend the truth to extreme lengths to make a point).

My point is, loud pipes (nor powerful speakers) are the problem. It's people that are inconsiderate, immature, or just plain ignorant that are the problem. To deal with them, and to be able to keep our privilages, we need to police ourselves from the inside, so an outside entity doesn't put a blanket ruling on all of us and ruin it. Triple650Indy is on the right track, but I think he's going about it a little wrong. When people ask me advice on car audio stuff, one of my first questions is almost always "What are your intentions", if they reply with "I want to get mad loud man, to be heard 2 miles away", I refuse to help them, get on my soapbox, and tell them that they're ignorant and immature. If you see some moron driving through town revving it up, causing disturbances, flag him down, get him to stop, hit his kill switch and mental slap him for being a jerk.

Cliff notes: Pipes aren't the problem, stupid, irresponsible people are. Stop them from ruining it for all of us by convincing them to be responsible. Most of the time, they don't know the possible consequences of their actions, if you inform them, maybe they'll think twice next time.

That is a great post! And I agree with it 100%
I agree. Good post. People are the problem, not the pipes. Guns don't kill people, people kill people. When will people realize this?[?]

I think the common thing that is louder equals more power. I no thats what i used to think when a was a dumass young kid. Now im older and i want mroepower and sound doesnt really F'n matter to me. Id have to say with all the sheet going on now days, nothing is considered quiet.

If your relying on your loud pipes to save your life you got problems. I rely on my skill to save my live, not some harley type sled so peole can hear me

And if people dont like it then too damn bad. I dont complain about straight piped Harleys or those ricers with fart cans. Around here i dont think there is a set decibal limit but i wouldnt care anyways. And there is also no trails on private land around here. All crown land.

Loud Pipes Save Lives. If people can hear you before they see you at least they know your coming.

i think LOUD VERY loud sleds are the greatest thing to hit the snow, i love them, i have a 04 rev 600 with a MBRP can and thers not better sound, ppl hate it i love it , i go by my neighbors houses on them early sunday morning rides just brapin it out jumpin snow plow drifts , nothing better.........let yourself be HEARD

Just remember loud don't mean fast, why ur being loud you won't hear me passing u I guess.
I met many a harley guy who was the same way, until I smoked them on my V-max
Engineers design certain pipes to work with the engine, for overall performance and reliability
Thats why if u leave it stock it'll last forever

I'd rather be the sleeper sled in the crowd. Un-noticed by the loud performance ones whom are puzzled when seeing my tail light ahead. On the other hand if loud pipes save lives, One life saved is enough for me. Respect the locals where you ride. My 4cts
