I might be getting a 02 440 and it is completly stock as far as i know. Now i was woundering if i could run it with the high comp heads on pump gas. It has the fuel switch so if i switch it to 91 and run premium in it shouldnt it be fine. I have also heard of people just using a thicker base gasket and leaving the high compression heads on. Is that doable or no. I would like to be able to run just regular pump gas in it. Or does that mean i need to change the head and gasket. Any Help is appreciated. Thanks

From what I've understood throughout the years, you should run premium regardless, and as soon as you do things to make more compression, you have to increase the octane. A freind of mine has a built XP watercraft and he NEEDS to run (as in engine wont crank) 110 octane avgas. He thought it was cool at first, but at nearly $6.00 USD per gallon, it gets spendy.

I was told i can leave the High Compression heads on put the switch in the middle(91+) and Put 310/300 main jets, 3rd clip postion and stock pilot jet in your carbs...They come with it in the 3rd clip postion, so all you have to do is change the main jets. Anyone got any thoughts, Any help is better than none

I guess it all depends on now much you trust he person that told you. If I was looking for a few ponies (and a new sound and shaving off some pounds to boot) I'd go with a new exhaust system. That coupled with some clutch re-work would help quite a bit. I'm not sure if this is an option to you though...just my 2 cents.

Thanks for the reply Rotax. I am not looking for a few ponies as much as i am looking for a way to be able to run regular pump gas. I want to run pump gas SAFELY. I dont want to damage the motor by running pump gas when it cant take it. I have heard that you can run pump gas with the High Compression heads but want to hear if it is safe and good for the motor. Thanks

i never usually run premium and was wondering if i should start on my xc700 some of the gas stations around here only carry regular but im sure i could always find different ones just dont want to spend 15-20cents a litre more if its not really all that neccesary?

scramblerman...I've always ran premium in my 2-strokes mainly because the manufacturer (Rotax) recommends it. I'd say "yes", but a call to the dealer may be in order, especially with gas prices now-a-days. Sorry I didn't answer your question, clay911. I guess I'm confused, I thought this sled was totally stock, and if it is, I don't understand why you'd put hi-comp heads on if you weren't looking for more hp. Good luck to all, though!

The sled is totally stock it comes stock with High comp heads and requires high octane fuel, i was woundering if i could run regular or premium in it and not wreck it because of the high comp heads.

Gotcha...sorry, my mistake. And unfortunatly I have no good answers for you either. I didn't realize hi-comp heads were stock. Good luck.
