Is it possible to get a loud can for a 488 fan-cooled engine or not

Your post stated you wanted a loud pipe, then your post says you want a loud can??? Take a look at your pipe once. There is only a single piece pipe there. The silencer is built into the pipe. Therefore you can't get a silencer. I doubt it would sound very good at all either even if you could get one. I don't even think getting an aftermarket pipe is an option. I know AAEN makes one for the Polaris 550 fans, but I doubt for your 488.
IMO I would be annoyed with a loud sled. Only way I would do a mod like that is if i got significant hp gain and wasnt happy with the current hp. All you will do is make the snowmobile haters hate us more if all you want is just a loud sled.
What I don't get is that nobody can get a loud exhaust for there sled without someone saying something like that yet if someone had a Harley and wanted to get pipes then it's alright. Or if somebody wants to make there truck sound better by putting a Loud exhaust on it then that's alright. Nothing against you micorps because I know what you mean but in other situations it's "ok". garett87, look around on the internet for some info on that can or pipe you want. I'm sure that you'll find what you want if you look hard enough.
Aaen might still make a pipe (or have one in stock) that will work on your 488, but it might not necessarily be louder.

If you just want "loud," have someone cut the pipe apart, remove any insulation, and weld it back together. It will sound like sh!t, but at least it will be loud. And as long as it is annoyingly loud, your friends will think its cool, and that's all that really matters.

I did this on my old 440 fan. It made it only a little bit louder, and it didnt sound bad at all. But like I said, it wasnt much louder at all.

Thats a video of me on my watercross sled. Its a 488 liquid. I just took the pipe, cut the end off, and welded on a side-pipe. There is no way you could trail ride with this, it will drive you, and everyone else nuts. I had to wear ear-plugs with it last summer...

AAEN makes a pipe for All indy 400/488 trail indy,440 indy sport,98 SS-I'm guessing Super sport, and 97-98XCF.
This pipe also fits indy 500's in the same chassis because that is the pipe they sold me for my 89 indy 500. They pipe is quite a bit lighter than your stock exhuast and it is a lot louder. The instructions that came with it said it would give you more responsive bottom end and a 2hp gain at 7400 rpm. It did give my sled better take off but I am not to sure about the extra 2hp at 7400 rpm. The pipe is $419.95 canadian.

As far as my "take out the insulation" idea, I was being sarchastic. My pipe came apart a couple years ago, and it sounded like sh!t.

loud pipes are like music to the ears ( to some ) performance gain or not if a pipe or can sounds good, i'll leave it on there and dont you know " Loud Pipes Save Lives" haha

Sound-wise, what did change was the idle and low rpm sound. Instead of a smooth purr, it has more of a "dot-dot-dot-dot-dot" sound.
Last time I was out riding, my friend Kelly was riding mine most of the day. A couple times when we rolled up to a stop, I would turn and listen to how my 400 sounded and think to myself, "damn, that sounds nice," and just smile. [

]Bag pipes are pretty loud and obnoxious, try one of those instead, it doesn't close trails or p-off non sledders. Mycat8urskidoo - that philosphy is for Cycles not sleds. It is possible to have a great sounding sled without blowing the handles off the pumps when you pull into the g-station.
That thing is as loud as my stock 7 is in person.
Like everyone else has said DG and AAEN are your best bet.
