am putting together a 1990 indy 650 project sled and from what i remember from back in the day the triple pipes REALLY wake these things up. My question is where can i get a set and are there sets that are quieter than others. I don't mind if it's a little louder but i don't want anything obnoxious.

check ebay, these are the most unwanted sleds right now. good thing for buyers. get a set of pipes that have a muffler. make sure that they have all the hardware to go with it. i would imagine that a nice set would run $100-200.

PSI's made the second least HP of the major 650 pipe manufacturers. Aaen are probably the quietest of them all and make good power. I run SLP's and I am parshall to them because we have had good luck with them. Deckers and SLP's are probably the loudest.

DG-116 HP at 9200 RPM
PSI-120 HP at 8800 RPM
Aaen-123 HP at 9400 RPM
SLP-123 HP at 9100 RPM
Decker-125 HP at 9200 RPM

where can i get a set of aaen's without spending a zillion dollars? how much hp did this motor make stock? I see that to get the extra 3 hp out of the aaen's i would have to turn the motor 600 rpm's more. isn't that bad for the motor? what clutching changes would i have to make to get the motor to achieve the higher rpm's.

P.S. thanks a ton for the chart and the info. that's exactly what i am looking for!!

Watch ebay they pop up there from time to time. Check out other forums that have a better classified section, ie. snowest, AMSNOW. Put a WTB add on any snowmobile forum you can find and it wont be long and you will find a set.

I wouldnt worry about the extra 600 rpms, the old 650 motor were strong reliable motors. We have run one of ours as high as 10200 rpms. If you are worried about the extra 600 rpms, just turn it 9200, 650 will run all day at this rpm. You will have to take some weight out of the primary and also a new secondary spring and helix.

if you can find a set of decker pipes, then you would be all set.
