So im looking to get a cheap quad to mess around with this coming summer. A guy has two for around 600 bucks. One is running, the other is for parts i think. I dono if its complete or not, or the condition of either yet, im finding that out still. But im just wondering, if theyre in decent shape, is it worth the price? Also, this is gona be my first quad that i own, im guessing it will keep my happy for a while, tho its just a 200cc air cooled, it wont have much power. But i assume it will be decent? Any thoughts? Ill post more info about them as soon as i find out.

the blasters actualy do have a lot of power for being a 200 beeing that it is a 2 stroke if set up properly they can do 60+mph

Ya i wouldnt go with anything other than a 2 stroke, especially a 200! haha.. I dont think ill be doing much top speed on it, prolly more low end and what not.

What do you think about price? Lets just assume they are in fair to decent condition, maybe a little beat up but not really. He said he needs cash, so im thinking they might be fairly decent. Still waiting to hear back.

How big are you? They are pretty small but have decent power.
Im not that big, im prolly around 160 and 5' 6" or so.

Id say get em. There is a pretty big aftermarket selection for them, and 2 for 600 is a good deal. Around here most go for around 1000, but you can find a few in decent shape for 600 at the cheapest. I have part of one, selling it right now, and buying a Warrior.

Ok thanks guys. I have no clue on condition yet. I mean i saw a running blaster last summer for 500, needed a little work, but didnt look too beat. Im not even sure what the parts quad has on it. But ill post up when i find out, ill prolly know by tomorrow.

160 is a lil big for a blaster, but for the price and if your on a budget its a alright deal.

My friend has a 03, trying it after coming off a cr250, its slow, no torque, the frame is really small and if you want to jump....wrong direction. They are nice to play around though.

Well i think forget the blaster idea, atleast the two i was talking about. The guy said 600 in the email, but i think he was talking that price for just the non-running one. He never replied, but i see a post on craigslist that im pretty sure those are the two he was telling me about, he wants 900 for the running one alone. So, forget that idea i guess..

How about a 2001 yamaha banshee, lets assume it needs a full tranny rebuild or something. 800 bucks.. Good price? I think so, but not positive. I see the same year banshees for upto and over 2000 posted.

Get the Banshee if its 950. There is one on Craigslist near me for 950, and if the warrior is sold, im going to try and buy it. They shouldnt need a tranny rebuild, unless it had the shit ran out of it. I saw a top end kit on CL for 150 or 250. In good condition they easily go for 2-3000. All ive heard about the Banshees are they can beat just about anything, and they are just powerhouses.

If you think you can fix the tranny yourself it wouldnt be a bad deal. I paid $1600 for a nice 04 YFZ 450 last yr and have seen a few 660s for $1500 around. Keep looking and you will find a good deal on something that runs.

Well ive never messed with a tranny, seems pretty complicated. But hey id like to learn it all anyways, so whats a better way than this? I dont really have 1500 to spend tho, i dont have the 800 right now, but close to. 800 seems doable for me, and could just buy the parts when i get more money. I still have time before summer anyways.

Why not look for 4 strokes? Banshee are just piston poppers. Blasters are pretty funy but small. Say go with a raptor or warrior. You wont regret going with a 4 stroke when it doesnt mess up. 4 strokes are way more reliable. you dont wanna set a date to take a great trip and then ur bike fuck up during or even b4 it starts. go with 4 stroke man

I like 2 strok engines! haha.. Id definitly go with a banshee over a blaster if i can do it. blaster would just be a cheap little toy to mess around on once in a while. Also, i know i can rebuild a 2 stroke engine myself if it goes out. I like the 2 stroke power band better i think.. I dont go on trips really either.

Was it stolen or something? Because the cheapest YFZ I have ever seen around me was $4000.

Here are a couple pics of that banshee i was talking about. He said lowest was 800, but im thinking it may not be worth that much? Maybe it is, but i dono.. The tranny for sure needs work, he says the motor ran fine, and always ran amsoil. Anyone got ideas on a price?

I have had many years of experience regarding quads... So I guess it is my time to contribute. 1st off a blaster is a very small machine (short) light and fun on hard pack dirt trails. It will do some sand, but dont expect to be running it up Choke Cherry Hill in Idaho.great starter quad, or kids/ womens putiing machine, but dont expect to feel excited about it after about 20 minutes. The Banshee is a different animal. It will abolutely stretch your arms on the pipe (even stock).. There are tons of aftermarket parts, but the downfall is lowend torque (there is none).I am not banshee bashing, but I have had them on trails and they are not in their realm. I agree that a four stroke quad is the way to go. I ride a tank (Bombardier DS650) and it is an absolute perfect fit for me... But it weights in at around 520 lbs. Stock they are 58 horse and with a good pipe and jetting, you would see around 75. I also have a Honda 400ex and it has been by far the most reliable and cheapest quad to run. I believe it has around 37 horse stock but a good pipe and jetting will also make that one come alive. It has climbed Choke Cherry and continues to run after years of abuse. I love that thing.
I have rideen Blasters, Raptors, Warriors and the YFZ.. The YFZ is by far the best I have ridden from Yamaha, but they can be spendy.
Dont mean to rant on, so if I can help you in any way, please let me know.

Thanks for the post. I doubt ill be riding up any hills or anything, not right now atleast. I live in southern MN haha.. I just want something to mess around on, maybe ride some trails (if we have any i guess) and ride around the ditches and what not.

Judging by the pics, and knowing it needs tranny work, can that banshee be worth 800 bucks? Im going try and talk him down a little, but if he says no, is it prolly worth the 800? I see these banshees stock or not for 2k and up on craigslist. A few on the cheaper side, but not much. Maybe 1500 for a little older one running.

Just a couple things judging by the pics to it not being in great shape would be the front tire is low, so maybe it has a leak, The fenders are a little bent, maybe something was sitting on it and it got stuck bent like that, i dono.

Is there anything else i should ask about it? Cuz i dont wana drive 3 hours to look at it, and then end up not buying it, cuz thats a bit of a drive.

I honestly wouldnt touch it, due to the fact that there are plenty of available quads out there right now. Sure the parts are easy to come by, but are you truly sure that the tranny is all that is wrong? Very hard to tell on a machine that doesnt move. You have no idea what caused it to fail (lack of oil etc)
Just my opinion, but I wouldnt let my friends into something like that unless they really knew what was up. Otherwise, they would be haunting me about it evertime the sychros popped the tranny out of gear.
I would look at something like a 400EX or a even a warrior for that matter. A non running quad is just that.

Well i cant afford anything other than this at this point, i checked on ebay and it looks like i can get a full tranny/gear set up for maybe 200 or so.. But your right, i dont know thats all thats wrong with it. I would be taking a risk. But he says it ran fine still. I dont see any quads around my area that are cheap, and worth getting. I would like to get a banshee or something like that.. How about if i talked him down to lower than 800?

IMHO, i wouldent pay 800$ for that, it looks too beat up. The plastics are bent and the motor looks like its already half apart and that will suck when your trying to put it back together or back in the frame. if you could get it for cheaper, like 400-500$ then maby but otherwise i would leave it right were it sits.

i seen a blown up banshee in my area go for 1500$ obo and it looked like it was in much better shape then that one, and stuff like this costs more in canada!
