The USFS causing problems

I'm surrounded by hundreds of thousands of national forest, and the USFS is considering shutting down snowmobiles because of too much snow & we're stressing out the moose population.

The moose outnumber us 100 to 1 out there and as long as folks aren't chasing down the critters with their sleds, I don't see a problem. I spend most of my winter out there and I've seen only a handfull of moose over the last decade. It does happen, but as vast as the terrain is, and as few of us actually venture into moose country, I believe they're over-reacting to a non-existant situation.

"Town Hall" meeting with the USFS to discuss this topic on Feb 1.

The government and environmental activists who influence them are very patient and methodical when trying to steal the use of public lands from the people who own them. Each year they whittle off a little more and see how people react. It looks like this year they have an excuse to try out a total ban where you live. You and everyone you know who snowmobiles better raise a big ruckus, because if they get away with a ban this year, they will get greedy and want to ban it even more.

If anything, on a year like this when you guys have so much snow, it may relieve stress on the moose population. They can travel better on packed trails.
The Moose up in Canada where we ride use the trail all the time to get to their bedding and feeding areas. I have never seen one on the trail but see their tracks everywhere?...
What if you brought up the idea to purposely to go into their areas and deliver some hay and pack some trails for them during this heavy snow?

My guess is they would think you're absurd trying to intentionally find the moose by sled. they would make it sound like you're purposely disturbing them. But I would say to get as many people to the town meeting and have them voice their opinion on how ridiculous this is, like Rubi said. I think Rubi has linked me to a site before... here it is: http://www.snowmobile-alliance.org/ They have some great information on "standing up" to the environmentalists. I've used their site for several projects and essays. Definitely a reliable source! They keep up to date on all of the current snowmobilers VS. environmentalists issues. And your comment about the moose out numbering the sledders 100:1 could probably be used as a valid point. Best of luck! [thumb]
