My dad had a 98' xc 600 was faster than my 700 on the trails but I ate him on the lakes. It got about 10-12 mpg. About the same as the 700 BB. 600 had 108-110. 700 was 118-120.

Why not buy from a dealer? Most give at least a 30 day warranty, you won't find to many private sellers that will back the sled up once it leaves their yard. Most of the problems you have with private sale used sled will now be yours to pay for. In 30 days of riding I'm sure you will find many "small" things to have the dealer fix to make it a much better sled.

I disagree. Why pay an extra $400 or $500 just for a dealers used sled? Whats a month of waranty worth with the winters we have been having? Much of my home state (MN) most of the bottem half of it, havent had enough snow to even ride. That month goes by pretty dang fast. IMO the dealer used sleds are from guys that don't care, just take the $1000 on trade in and could care less where their old sled goes. Any snowmobile nut knows what to look for when buying from a private party, and you can always tell if the guy cares about it and where their "ol baby" is going to go. You know a good deal when you see one. I have had nothing but good luck with buyin sleds from private parties. If the guy is a Dipsht, doesnt have much information about it, be on your merry way! Just make sure you take a compression test, test drive, and have the carbs cleaned if you do buy one regardless. My $.02

I have had mine up to 120 on the dream o meter.

on our local lake I had mine up to 98 on radar in 1000ft. 600 should just as fast.

I actually sold my sled out right to a few 12-14 yr old brothers a few months ago. I told them if something went wrong after they got it home to just bring it back an all give them the money back or glady fix it. I dont like to see someone buy something from me and complain 2 weeks later that i sold them junk so im always happy to help or work with as long as i no my sleds in a good home. You cant go wrong buying from a private party they usually give you a better deal or help you a bit and depending on the person some are great to do business with and others a jerks. Just look at how the peson acts or respondes to you an you can tell if there feeding you aline of bull. All say i dont no alot of sleds. I buy them ride them do some engine work etc thats about it. But when they ask me questions all say i really dont no for sure but lets call a dealer etc. It makes the customer feel good to know your working with them. The 30 day warranty wont give you much just a waste of money unless you know ur gonna ride it the next day and ride it hard where it could go BOOM. just my 2 cents

I paid $2650 for my 98' XC700 but I was willing to do so since it was only 3 hours away, the sled of my dreams, only had 312 origional miles and in perfect condition minus a small crack under the decal that happened when the other owner unloaded it off the trailer. I have the 824 cyl's, 220's are supposidbly quicker, but the 824's supposidbly put out more hp and top mph, just from all the topic's I've read on various forum's. Also the 220's are prone to hanging a ring due to the more aggressive porting?

i bought a xc 700 manufactured in 9/97 but it is the 98 modle. I paid 2000 for it and it had 767 origional miles on it. That sled ur lookin at is to much for the miles they probly are hard miles.

yep. to much money them are some nice sleds on here tho

I have a 98 xc 700( for 1 more day) and on kbb it is worth $2900. Dealer gave me $2000 for trade in. So I say that is not a bad price.

Well when I was looking for a 98 700 earlier this fall, you didnt want to take anything less than $3500 for it? [:(!] LMAO

that was because I really did not want to sell it. I found a pro x and now I want to sell it. It was all timeing. I also had a bunch of extra's that the dealer is not getting.
